The Creation Of Bend Brothers

Posted by David Taylor on

I should start with why I fell in love with pie cuts.

I own a Nissan Skyline gtst sedan

Nissan R32 GTST Skyline Sedan RB20 DET

that I have extensively modified for roughly three years now, I’ve always loved a clean and straightforward engine bay, so this is where I’ve spent the majority of my time modifying.

I’ve wasted many hours browsing the speed hunters website, and this is where I fell in love with the unique style, useability & look of pie cut (Lobster Back) bends.

They provide an incredibly diverse range of uses just from a simple pie-cut piece of tube... I’m getting a little off topic here, so let’s get back to it

once I had seen Pie Cuts on Instagram and Facebook, I couldn’t hold back; I needed to have some pie cut bends in my life.

It’s funny that I started the story about my Skyline. As my first encounter with pie cuts was building a 4” 304 Stainless Steel snorkel for my Isuzu Dmax ute, I decided how to create the snorkel and what material I wanted to use. Still, when it came to the bends, I could not for the life of me find anywhere to buy pre-made pie cuts that were ether.

(A) Affordably priced

 (B) Able to ship to Australia without costing the earth

or (C) In a cut angle that suited my needs

So I set out to make my own.

This proved to be a lot harder and 3x more time-consuming than I could have imagined! This was before I even considered TIG welding them all together ( Let’s take a moment of silence for all of the fabricators who spend hundreds of hours cutting, prepping and then meticulously welding together beautiful pie cut bends )

Believe me, and this shit isn’t easy; it took me a good 3 hours to get the cut angle correct for what I needed, then another 1.5 hours to finish and prep all the pieces. There had to be a better way!

essentially this is where the idea for Bend Brothers was formed

Australia had a massive hole in the market and I intend to fill it!

After much deliberating and searching, I finally found a supplier who was able to produce the quality that I felt was up to the standard required

many late nights and early mornings later of researching and learning about the different grades and qualities used in the Motorsport industry I was finally ready to place my first order. We have continued to grow from there.

I want to thank all the people who have supported and helped me already in this journey. I couldn’t have done it without you

th out you.
